Job Description

The Reception Administrator will assist patients with admissions and discharges while ensuring an efficient, compliant, and compassionate administrative process. The role safeguards the organisation from financial and operational risks while delivering a professional client experience.


Key Responsibilities

  • Process admissions, pre-admissions, and bookings according to organisational procedures.

  • Identify and prevent financial risks by following relevant policies and protocols.

  • Ensure smooth discharge processes in line with the Patient Administration Manual.

  • Uphold and maintain strict patient confidentiality at all times.


Required Education

  • Essential: Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent.

  • Desired: Reception administration experience; private healthcare experience.


Required Experience

  • Essential: None.

  • Desired: Hospital reception or administrative experience.


Required Skills & Knowledge

  • Debtpack Enquiry application.

  • Admission and bed functions; pre-admission and discharge processes.

  • Anatomy and medical terminology.

  • Hospital switchboard operations.

  • Patient Administration policies (confidentiality, cash handling, blacklisted patients, etc.).

  • AS400 patient administration system.

  • Microsoft Office.

  • ICD and CPT codes.

  • Medical Aid schemes and private healthcare processes.

  • Workmen’s Compensation Act procedures.

  • Emergency protocol (fire, flooding, robbery).

  • Ability to identify financial risks (e.g., valuables, blacklisted patients).
